Creed & Catechism
This sacrament is given to us by God. We use this sacrament once in each person's life.
What is baptism?
We say the Nicene Creed on communion Sundays. The Nicene Creed explains that Jesus is God's Son and true God. Jesus earned forgiveness by doing this.
What is dying on the cross?
When we prepare to go to communion we confess our sins to God. We know that He forgives us and gives us strength and power to live as His child. This person of God (the Trinity) gives us the power to live as God wants us to.
What is the Holy Spirit?
In the commandments, God tells us that we should love and fear Him. People often think of being afraid when they hear the word, "fear". That is not what God means in the commandments. When God tells us to fear Him He means to love and respect him and hold him in high esteem. Name the term that describes God reminding us that He never sins.
What is Holy?
Our confirmation is a public statement of faith. It acknowledges that we have studied God's Word and believe what it says. We have received the Sacrament of Baptism already. Now the confirmed person participates in the second sacrament. Name this sacrament.
What is communion?
In this sacrament, Jesus body and blood are present. We cannot see the actual body and blood but know they are there becuase of what Jesus tells us in His Word.
What is Holy Communion?
The 3rd Creed is called the Athanasian Creed. We say this creed once a year. It explains in great detail how God has three parts and yet is only one God. This is the Sunday of the church year when the Athanasian Creed is said.
What is Trinity Sunday?
The word trinity has "tri" in it which means 3. The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Not 3 gods but the 1 true God. This term helps us understand this truth.
What is "oneness"?
God told men what words to write in the Bible. Name the term that describes how God put the words in the men's minds.
What is inspired?
We use this book as a reference to help explain the Bible in more depth. It explains the Ten Commandments, the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion, the Lord's Prayer, the Creeds and Confession.
What is the Catechism?
This word means to tell God the sins we have done.
What is confession?
God the Father created us. God the Holy Spirit helps us understand God's Word, gives us strength and guidance to live as God's child and prays for us. This person of the Trinity died on the cross and rose again to forgive our sin.
What is God the Son?
In the first three commandments we learn how to love God. God tells us that He wants us to gather with other Christians each week and worship Him together. This is the commandment that focuses on worship.
What is the Third Commandment?
A Creed is a statement of what we believe. We say a Creed each week in church. The most common Creed used often has this title.
What is the Apostle's Creed?
We sin everyday. There are sins that we know we do and there are sins we don't realize we do. When we tell God that we are sorry for all these sins, it is called this.
What is confession?
The Bible is written in two parts. One part begins with creation and tells us about all the events and teachings that happened before Jesus was born. The other part tells us about Jesus birth, His life, death and resurrection and the lives of the early Christians. Name these two parts that the Bible is divided into.
What are the Old Testament and the New Testament?
The last 7 commandments tell us how to live with others. Some of the things God addresses is to always be truthful with others, be faithful to your spouse in marriage, be satisfied with and thankful for the blessings he has given you and honor your parents. We cannot do this with our own power so God gives us this help.
What is strength?
In this Creed, we tell what we believe about God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
What is the Apostle's Creed?
Before we go to Communion, we confess our sins and ask for Jesus forgiveness. We know that God will always do this.
What is forgive our sins?
The Bible teaches us about the law and the Gospel. The law tells us how God wants us to live and tells us about sin and its consequences. The Gospel tells us how Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins. Name the term that explains that Jesus came to save us from our sin.
What is salvation?
When a person has received instruction in God's Word and what it means for their life, a special event happens. Name this event.
