What are the ingredients for this art project?

Water, big bowl, paint, paper, paper towel/towel.

Is a water strider a spider?

No

100

Are All water droplets the same size

No, so are much bigger than others.

200

What is polarity?

It is when a bond of different atoms have both a positive charge on one side and a negative charge on the other side.

200

What is soap doing in this experiment?

Is is a surfactant in this experiment which breaks the surface tension in the milk.

200

Is clean up of this art form easy?

Yes

200

How does the water strider detect a small insect to eat?

By feeling the vibrations the small insect makes when it lands on the surface of the water.

What Causes Surface Tension?

Since all molecules in a water drop are attracted to each other, they are all held still. On the outermost layer, there is a net inwards pull because they are not completely surrounded by water. This causes a small film-like layer of water molecules to form on the surface, rather than in a random formation

300

what do opposites do

attract

300

What happens in this experiment?

The soap breaks surface tension allowing the water to move about which then bumps into the fat which then all bumps into the food coloring, creating a colorful effect.

300

What country is this art form from?

Japan

300

What does the water strider have on its legs in order to not break surface tension?

Hair

300

What are molecules?

It is the smallest amount of a bond to still have the same properties of that bond.
