This layer gets the most light and 98% of all life in the ocean lives here.
Sunlight Zone
As we go deeper in the ocean, this gets colder. It is a a degree of hotness or coldness that can be measured using a thermometer.
Temperature
What element (or rock) is sand mostly made out of?
Quartz
These friendly ocean mammals are similar to whales and are super smart - they often jump, spin, and play in the ocean.
Dolphins
We wear a mask and flippers and breath air through a long tube that is shaped like a "J." We cannot go very deep and typically stay on the water's surface while doing this.
Snorkeling
This layer still gets some sunlight, but not much... only heartier fish like whales and swordfish can swim here.
Twilight Zone
This increases as we go deeper and makes us feel like we are being squeezed tighter and tighter the lower we go.
Pressure
These red crustaceans live on the beach in holes they dig with their large pincers (or claws)
Crabs
These animals live in the sea, but lay their eggs on the beach - they can live for a very long time and have very hard shells.
Turtles
We bring our air with us in tanks on our backs when we do this, and can stay under water for a lot longer.
Scuba Diving
This zone is pitch black, the water is very cold in temperature.
Midnight or Dark Zone
This comes from the sun and helps us to see - it can only reach the first two zones of the ocean.
Light
Small bodies of water that form when low tide happens - they are quiet, calm and peaceful places.
Tide Pools
This strange look fish comes from the very deep ocean - it looks like a fish in the deep, but up on land it looks like a pile of jelly.
Blob Fish
This special boat can dive underwater and uses sonar to "see" where it is going.
Submarine
This zone reaches the ocean floor, the temperature is nearly freezing and very few animals can live here
Abyss Zone
Ocean water is different than fresh water because it contains high amounts of what?
Salt
The gravitational pull of the moon creates these, and they can be high or low depending on where you are on the planet.
Tides
These strange slug-like creatures live on the ocean floor, and have poisonous organs. Their name comes from a long, green food that we eat and make into pickles.
Sea Cucumbers
This boat is powered by the wind.
Sailboat
This is the deepest part of the ocean where strange looking species live. It is the hardest place for humans to explore due to all the pressure.
Trench Zone
When life in the upper zones die, fish eat their meat and these sink to the deeper zones below.
Bones
This happens as the waves continue to hit the beach and carry sand away when they leave.
Erosion
This fish of the deep is so sneaky - it has a long pole in front of it with a light on the end that attracts fish so it can eat them.
Angler Fish
This craft can show you the ocean from very high up in the sky - it has a special design that also lets it land on water.
