John is a computer geek that doesn't get much physical exersize. John woke up one day and created the following goal: By next month, I will buy running shoes, registar for the  26.2 mile Boston Marathon and place top 50. I will train 4 days every week and eat less fast food to prep for this race. Is this a SMART goal?

It is not. Remember what the A in SMART means. Although John's goal is Specific, Measurable, and Timely, it is not Attainable to him within his timeframe.

You are doing your math homework and it is taking you a long time, well after dinner. Your parents start to yell at you because you have not done the dishes yet. You explain to your parents that you have an exam coming up and you really need to study for this exam because you do not want to fail. Your parents understand and allow you to complete your homework while they do the dishes. Is this self-advocacy?
