What is a claim?

A statement believed to be true.

100

Name the three sections of the scientific method.

* First plan the test

* Conduct the experiment

* Analyze the results.

100

What are some ID variables

Dry ( Dependent Responding Y axis) Measured dependent variable. Mosa Mack Dry- Hyperactivity

Mix ( Manipulated independent X axis) What is intentionally changed in an experiment. Mosa Mack Mix- Which one of the camps got sugar

100

How do we conduct the test?

We use the steps of the of the procedure.

100

What does C.E.R stand for.

C.E.R stands for Claim, Evidence, Reasoning.

200

What is evidence?

Facts used to support a claim.

200

What do you do when you plan the test?

* Identify the question

* Come up with a claim

200

What is the meaning of "Controlled variable"?

* It can never change

* If it doesn't remain the same you have to start over

200

What is Quantitative data?

* Measurable numbers. Numbered data that we collect.

300

Name two kinds of evidence.

Quantitative data

Qualitative data

300

 When you write a hypothesis...

Expected an outcome of an phenomenon

It is written as an If-Then statement

Dry- Mix

Plant growth example

* DV= (Dry) The plant height ( Dependent variable)

* MV= (Mix) Different liquids ( Independent variable)

* Control+ The same amount of exposure to the same elements. The same type of flower

300

What is Qualitative Data?

* Results that do not need tools just senses.

400

Define reasoning.

A statement that explains your evidence.

400

What are the steps of an experimental design

* Set up your experiment

* Figure out how to get your data

400

What do you have to do to prove a claim?

The control has to be followed through and not change through out the experiment.

400

What to do you do/ask during the reasoning/ conclusion?

* Did you answer your question?

* Do your results support your claim?

* Discuss your evidence to support your claim.

500

How do we test a claim?

We use the scientific method.

500

Material

* Consumables: Any kind of consumable that is used up

* Nonconsumables: Things that we save and type of equipment that do not get thrown away.

500

What are the steps for the procedure

* This should be numbered

* This should be step by step

* This should be clear and concise

Gorilla tape commercial

Claim: Gorilla tape is 3 times stronger than duct tape.

Evidence: When the duct tape was on the lawn mower it broke off when the gorilla tape was on the lawn mower it was fixed.

Reasoning: Since the lawn mower was broken with the duct tape and held in place with the Gorilla tape that means that the Gorilla tape is stronger.
