What is Out of Order?
Where did it all begin? And why is it that we reverence 1985 and 1974 when the Academia Society was established in 2006?
On March 20, 1974 five young men at Florida A&M University formed the first subversive chapter at FAMU. The descendants of the five men pushed for a family of subversion to be a group of scholarly and privilege friends long before 1985. In January 1988 nine men at Florida State University created a second chapter a ceremonially used January 15, 1985 as their founders date. By the late 1980’s members of our community began to cluster together to form government and structure. There came a great divide in 1990 whereby the one became two. Though the cross roads of life yielded two different paths, we are still the same kindred. We just have a different way of going about reaching our goals. In 1997 the need arose for a national body so the organizational body was created, several months later the tag KOSIS was adopted on October 21, 1997. Soon competition with the schism body caused strain for the new body and years later on July 16, 2006 in Memphis, Tennessee LVE originated the idea and with 17 other men formed the Academia Society and incorporated this society on July 25, 2006 to be perpetual. The schism groups’ motto is Service to Our Kind and our motto is Service to All Mankind Illuminating Nascent Altruism. We share some portions of history but are two different facets.
Why are globes significant to Scholars in TAS and why do we collect them?
We collect globes to show our international comprehension of the African American Struggle across the Globe. The Globes teach us that no matter where we are in the world, things are happening to our people and in our society, our world, our way, we must make a difference toward humanity.
