What is an electric circuit and what is the direction of the current in the electric circuit?

An electric circuit is a closed path where electric current flows.

In an electric circuit, the direction of current is taken to be from the positive terminal to the negative terminal of the electric cell.

How many poles does a magnet have and what are they?

A magnet has 2 poles which are north and south pole.

100

Define transparency

Transparency is the physical property of allowing light to pass through the material without appreciable scattering of light.

100

What is the filtration?

Filtration is the process of filtering the water using a filter paper.

100

Why do we need water?

To bathe, to survive, to drink, to cook, to brush, for animals and plants and much more.

200

What are the two types of circuits. Define each and tell how to control them.

The 2 types

200

Artificial magnets are made in different shapes such as __________, __________ and ____________.

depends on the group

200

What are the 3 types of transparency? Give 5 examples for each

Opaque, transluscent and transparent

examples- Depend on the team

200

How can you separate salt from water?

Define the method.

Evaporation

Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or vapor

200

What is transpiration?

The exhalation of water vapour through the stomata.

300

Why should we not join the wires connected to the two terminals of the electric cell?

We should never join the wires with two terminals of the electric cell. If we do so, the chemicals in the electric cell get used up very fast and the cell stops working.

300

Write any 3 properties of a magnet.

  • It attracts objects made of Nickel, Cobalt and Iron.
  • Magnet directs the side in north and south direction.
  •  Magnets attract opposite poles
  • etc
300

Give some properties of materials and explain them.

Depends on the group

300

What is winnowing? Where is it used?

The method of separating the components from a mixture. In this method, heavier and lighter components of a mixture are separated by wind or by blowing air. This method is used to separate grains from husk.

300

Take out a cooled bottle of water from the refrigerator and keep it on a table. After some time you notice droplets of water around it. Why?

Because the surface of the air around the bottle cool down and air condenses around the bottle.

400

Draw an electric circuit diagram and label each part. Say at least one function of each part.

Depending on the group

400

How is a compass used to find directions?

A compass always shows north and south direction, by keeping this as a reference we can always find east and west directions also.

Given below are the names of some objects and materials:

Water, basketball, orange, sugar, globe, apple and earthen pitcher. Group them as:

(a) Round shaped and other shapes (b) Eatables and non-eatables

Also say which one of them is lustrous , is magnetic, is soluble or insoluble and which state of matter are they in.

depends on the group answer

400

How will you separate husk or dirt particles from a given sample of pulses before cooking?

What are the 3 types of solution. Define each.

Husk and dirt particles are separated from pulses by handpicking.

Unsaturated solution, Saturated solution and super saturated solution.

[definition depend on the group]

400

How are clouds formed?

The process of condensation plays an important role in bringing water back to the surface of the earth. As we go higher from the surface of the earth, it gets cooler. When the air moves up, it gets cooler and cooler. At sufficient heights, the air becomes so cool that the water vapor present in it condenses to form tiny drops of water called droplets. It is these tiny droplets that remain floating in the air and appear to us like clouds.

500

What are the 3 wires in the plugs for example earth wire. Tell each name and what they do.

There are 3 wires in the plugs which are present.

The Earth wire, the neutral wire and the live wire.

Earth wire is used to protect you from an electric shock

Live wire is electrical wire through which there is a flow of electrical current

Neutral wires carry currents back to power source to better control and regulate voltage.

500

You are given an iron strip. How will you make it into a magnet? Make a diagram and explain each step.

Take a bar magnet and keep in contact with one of its poles with one edge of the bar of iron.

  • Without lifting the bar magnet, move it along the length of the iron bar till you reach the other end.
  • Lift the magnet and bring the pole (the same pole you started with) to the same point of the iron bar from which we began.
  • Move the magnet again along the iron bar in the same direction as you did before.
  • Repeat this process for about 30-40 times.
500

Why is tumbler not made with a piece of cloth?

Tumbler is not made with a piece of cloth because we generally use a tumbler to keep a liquid. A tumbler made of a piece of cloth cannot be used to keep water. So, a tumbler is made with a material which has a property to hold the liquid.

500

Explain the process of making the water pure.

There is a beaker with unwanted impurities and dirt.

Sedimentation

Decantation

Filtration

Boiling ( Just to purify the water fully )

500
