In the piece “I Hear America Singing,” Walt Whitman writes, “I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear [...] Each singing what belongs to him or her and to none else.” Which of the following is NOT an appropriate inference of this passage?

A. America is diverse.

B. America deserves respect.

C. Everyone can sing.

D. Everyone is unique.

 C is the correct answer.

A, B, and D can all be reasonably inferred from the passage. “Varied” portrays the diversity of America and the uniqueness of every individual. “Carols” shows a feeling of respect for America. Although “singing” shows up multiple times in the poem, it is most reasonable to conclude that the author is not literally talking about singing, rather, he is talking about embracing diversity and living a happy life in America
