Jenson walks down the dark alley watching the shadows of the night follow him. The wind whistles causing his heart to beat faster. "Is that a footstep I hear?" thought Jenson.
What is suspense?
A kid put his hand in a cookie jar and tries to grab as many as he could hold. When he tries to take his hand out, he is unable to do so.

This is the portion of the story where the characters, setting, and complications are introduced

It had been a terrible day. Emma had forgotten her homework at home, was chosen last for the kickball game in phys-ed class, and now, she heard her name over the loud speaker with the instruction, “Report to the principal’s office immediately.” Luckily, things were about to get better.
What is a foreshadow?
A Hare is boasting about his speed and challenges A Tortoise. The Hare runs full speed ahead and to make fun of the Tortoise, he decides to take a nap. The Tortoise keeps slowly going and going. When the Hare wakes up, he notices that the Tortoise is near the finishing post and fails to win the race.

What is character vs nature?
Joseph watched the dark clouds roll in from the east, turning the sky from blue to black. In the distance, he heard the faint rumbling of thunder. His dad glanced back over his shoulder, then straight ahead again as he maneuvered their small motor boat between the growing swells in the water. The storm was gaining on them. The shore was a distant line. Joseph was worried they wouldn’t get out of the water in time.
What is suspense?
A Grasshopper spends his summer singing and dancing, while a team of Ants have worked hard all summer collecting food for the winter. He doesn’t understand why the Ants work so hard. When winter comes, the Grasshopper finds himself dying of hunger and see’s the ant serving up food to survive. He then understands why the Ants were working so hard.
What is a hard work pays off?
In the point of view, the narrator can only share what happens. The narrator is unable to tell the thoughts and feelings of characters.
What is third person objective?
At this point of the story, the conflict is resolved or loose ends are tied up. However, the story could also be left open ended
What is the resolution?
In the book Warriors: Into the Wild, Tigerheart and Bluefur argue about whether to let Rusty, a house cat into their clan in the forest.
What is character vs character?
In the book Holes, the chapter open up about Camp Green Lake being a desolate, dried up lake with thousands of holes. Later in the book, the chapter describes how Green Lake was once a vibrant and lush tree lined lake. The lake had many peach trees as well.
What is a flashback?
Dog is walking home with a piece of meat in his mouth. On his way home he crosses a river and looks into the water. He mistakes his own reflection for another Dog and wants his meat also. But as he opens his mouth, the meat falls into the river and is never seen again.

In this point of view, the narrator is speaking directly to you the reader. The pronouns you and yours are mostly used.
What is second person point of view?
This is the portion of the story where the conflict presents itself as a turning point and the characters have to make a decision about how to respond

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Class Clown, Greg decides to play a billion pranks on Rowley, often breaking many of the school rules
What is character vs society?
At the end of the movie, our hero, Matilda, is trapped in a dungeon in the tower of the castle. The brave knight, Roberto, has been detained hundreds of miles away. Will he escape in time to rescue Matilda?
What is a cliffhanger?
Two Crabs, a mother and a child are walking across the sand. The mother Crab scolds her child for walking wrong and tells him to walk more gracefully. The child Crab explains that he doesn’t know how to and asks his mother to show him. The mother Crab is unable to walk right herself.
What is lead by example?
In this point of view, the narrator is an outside observer and can only share the thoughts and feelings on one character
