acute stress is stress that does not last a long time. It can cause some issues but can usually be resolved in a short period of time if the person affected is able to get the things they need to get done, done. Chronic stress is long term stress that causes people to become unhealthy. This type of stress can cause over exhaustion, mood swings and loss in weight.

Third is Reaction Formation which is transforming an unacceptable feeling or desire into its opposite in order to make it more acceptable. Finally, Repression which is unconsciously excluding disturbing wishes, thought, or experiences from awareness.
