The illustrations show the events described on these pages and include that aren't include in the text. For example, on page 296, we see men with riffles who are protecting those who are setting the jacales on fire.
On page 297, shows the damage to the Alamo wall, and it gives a sense of the desperate rush to build a secure wall.
Why did Santa Anna send Susanna Dickinson with a message to Sam Houston?
She wanted this message to frighten Houston and make him think he and his troop would meet the same fate as did the men at the Alamo.
