Power
In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies power in general is very important. In the novel when Ralph gets voted as chief Jack gets jealous. From that moment and on they almost had an unsaid rivalry over power on the rest of the boys. The conch is used not only to call meetings but also to establish order when the boys talk. The conch symbolizes civilization, adult rules, and the democratic process and that is great power. Jack and Ralph have so much conflict, that they even split up tribes. this happens because Ralph is chief and Jack hates that he does not have power. This is a big turning point in the novel. in conclusion power in the Lord of the flies is extremely important and portrays a big part in the book.
