Biology Terms
The act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way
Observation
The variable that is observed and that changes in response to the independent variable.
Dependent(responding) variable
An organized way of gathering and analyzing evidence about the natural world
Science
A logical interpretation based on what scientists already know.
Inference
A scientific explanation for a set of observations that can be tested in ways that support or reject it
Hypothesis
Detailed records of experimental observations; gathering information
Data
An experiment where all other variables should be kept unchanged
Controlled experiment
Number data that is obtained by counting or measuring
Quantitative data
The variable that is deliberately changed
Independent(manipulated) variable
Data that is descriptive and involves characteristics that cannot be usually counted
Qualitative data
