Explain how mountains affect climate?

As clouds are forced up the mountain on one side, they gather more and more water as the cloud moves up the mountain. When they get too heavy, rain falls from the cloud on one side of the mountain. By the time the cloud passes over the mountain, it doesn't have any (or as much) rain, and the other side of the mountain is left dry.
