Dialogue
An extreme exaggeration not intended to be taken literally.
Hyperbole
words that are meaningful, but not literally true, not meant to be taken literally
figurative language
A group of lines that usually develop one idea as part of the poem
Stanza
the feeling created in the reader by a poem or story.
Mood
Larger sections of the play.
Acts
Giving human characteristics/traits to non-human things.
Personification
An educated guess using 'schema' (your background knowledge) and context clues.
Inference
A word or phrase that is repeated throughout the poem
repetition
the distinctive way that a poet uses language; including word choice, line length, figurative language, and imagery
Style
The smaller sections of the play. Compared to chapters in a novel.
Scenes

Simile
A brief statement or account of the main points/ideas of a text.
Summary
A verse or phrase that is repeated at intervals throughout a song or poem .
refrain
A concise statement of a general truth or principle.
Ex. If the shoe fits, wear it
Aphorism
Gives details about the setting, place, time, character's actions and visual/sound effects.
Stage directions
Two or more words in a row that start with the same consonant sound. Ex. Best Buy
Alliteration
Anything that represents or stands for something else.
