the Habitat for Humanity started  in 1976 in  Americus, Georgia anf the founder that startend the foundation is Millard Fuller and Linda Fullerx 

“In 1973, the Fullers moved to Africa to test their housing model. The project, which they began in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was a success.

Upon their return to the U.S. in 1976, the Fullers met with a group of close associates and created a new independent organization: Habitat for Humanity International”

The legacy of these residential schools has been their intended weakening of Indigenous communities and cultures, which allowed the government to continue using Indigenous land as they see fit, without recognition of Indigenous law or their role in governing their land, and which Canadian society continues to benefit.

Why is it hard to know the number of students who died at these schools?

Information exists in archives about the deaths of children, which has contributed to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation's Memorial Register. As of May 24, 2022, the register has 4,130 confirmed names of children who died while at Indian Residential Schools.
