What is the difference between a proper noun and a common noun?

A proper noun is capitalized and is usually a person's name or specific place such as Miss Darnell or Barkdull Faulk Elementary School. A common noun is just a person place or thing such as book, dog, or cat.

What is an example of Intent vs. Impact in the classroom?

You are talking to a friend about something, but in turn, you are talking over the teacher. - You might not be intentionally talking over the teacher, but it happened because you were talking when you weren't supposed to be talking.

You tell one of your friends that they are "dumb" or "stupid" and normally that joke is okay, but maybe they made a bad grade that day so they are sensitive.

You try to explain a situation to someone, but they take it wrongly even though you weren't trying to defend your actions, you were just trying to explain.

Self-reflection is to reflect on your choices. At the end of the day, you can think about everything you did or said and decide whether that was the correct choice.

How can we work on improving our awareness of Intent vs. Impact?

Think about what we are saying to others. Think about what we are doing to others.

Think about how you would feel if this happened to you. And even if you wouldn't mind it or care, doesn't mean someone else won't have a different reaction.

Every person is different! Just because you mean something one way, doesn't mean someone else will take it that way.
