Gathering and analyzing information about student performance to identify what students know, understand, can do and feel at different stages in the learning process

What is the new paradigm?
serves to establish what learning needs to take place, i.e. its purpose is to identify gaps in students learning and their strengths and weaknesses. Such tests can be set at any stage of a course
