A 4th wall break occurs when a character acknowledges that they are in a play, movie, or video game.
This happens either directly by looking and talking to the audience, or by breaking the logic of the world around them.
Why do should you not ask questions?
if you rely on questions to push the scene forward then you put all the work on your partner.
Why is breaking character bad? when is it appropriate to break character?
Breaking character breaks the 4th wall and can break the illusion of the story. It is appropriate for when the characters are telling the audience something directly (ex: deadpool jokes)
