What are the rudder and tiller?
When the wind is coming over the right side of the boat and the sails are pushed out over the left side of the boat
What is a Starboard tack?
The front of the boat`
What is the bow?
Point of Sail that is the closest to irons.
What is close hauled?
The rope that controls the main sail.
What is the main sheet?
the vertical pole that holds up the main sail
What is the mast?
When the wind is coming over the left side of the boat and the sails are out past the right side of the boat
What is a port tack?
The back of the boat.
What is the stern?
The fastest point of sail
What is a beam reach?
The rope that controls the jib
The horizontal pole that swings when the mainsail moves from one side of the boat to the other
What is the boom?
When the boat is leaning to one side because the wind is causing it to tip
What is heeling?
The right side of the boat when looking at the bow.
What is the starboard side?
The point of sail that is between 90 and 180 degrees from the wind.
What is a broad reach?
The rope that pulls up the sails.
What is the halyard?
The exterior bottom and sides of the boat.
What is the hull?
When the wind pushes the boat over on its side.
What is a capsize?
The left side of the boat when looking at the bow.
What is the port side?
The point of sail that is 180 degrees from the direction of the wind.
The rope that connects the mast to the boom diagonally so that the boom stays down.`
What is the boom vang?
The metal cables that stabilize the mast.
What are the stays?
when the boat is heeling and you put your feet in the straps and lean out of the side of the boat
The part of the boat that keeps it on course and prevents it from drifting sideways.`
What is the center board?
the no go zone where the boat cannot move.
What is irons?
The rope that connects the clew end of the main sail to the boom.
