typically, who would administer medication?

The Program Supervisor will administer prescription medication. However, under certain circumstances, a designate may be asked to administer the medication.

Regarding food allergies and sensitivities, what must be provided to MCC prior to Parents providing the Program with a substitute item (i.e.; with a milk allergy parents may provide a suitable nut free dairy substitute that comes to the program new in an unopened package) if needed.

A Doctor’s note outlining the specific foods and symptoms must be provided to MCC.

For families with religious beliefs regarding food. A substitute will be provided by MCC when these foods are served (eg. If pork is being served, a different protein will be available as well).

Name the parameters around non prescription medication being administered. 

The parent has confirmed that the non-prescription medication has previously been given to the child at home. Enough time must be given in order to document any possible side effects.

Non-prescription medication e.g. Tylenol will be administered by the School Age Program provided that it is accompanied by a doctor’s note with detailed instructions and is labeled with the child’s name.

Parent and/or Milestones Children’s Centre supplied non-prescription creams, ointments, lotions, lip balms, insect repellants, sunscreen and hand sanitizers that are to be applied to a child, will be administered as directed by the instruction on the label, so long as the product is in its original container, and if provided by the parent, labeled with the child’s name.

If at any time, the parent requests that the application process change, over and above the regular routine, the non-prescription product will be reviewed and the parent may need to complete a medication form.
