This is when something is under the wrong section in an outline or would make more sense in a different paragraph.
What is "off-topic"?
This is how many body paragraphs you should have in your essay (NOT including the introduction and conclusion).
What is "2 or 3"?
This button must be clicked on the SOL because it won't be done for you automatically! (Hint: it's something your phone and computer do automatically)
What is "spellcheck"?
This word refers to the writer's voice (think about whether or not they sound professional).
What is "tone"?
This is the last sentence of your introduction. It includes your position/main idea, and at least two reasons. "I believe ______, because _________."
What is the thesis statement?
This is helpful to read because it will tell you what the piece of writing is about and who it is written for.
What is the prompt?
This word means "specific," so look for the most specific answer.
What is "precise"?
This is the first sentence of your essay. It should draw your reader in with a bold statement, rhetorical question, or detailed description.
What is the hook?
This must be checked by reading the rest of the paragraph and seeing when it takes place.
What is past, present, or future tense?
This word means "short and to-the-point," so look for the shortest answer.
What is "concise"?
This is included in the last body paragraph of your essay. It is an argument someone might make against you.
What is the counterargument?
These words are easy to mix up when asked to combine two sentences.
What are FANBOYS? (Remember: "but" is the opposite of "and", and "so" means there's a cause and effect.)
When revising for this, pick the shortest answer that still makes sense.
What is "clarity"?
This is included in the last paragraph of your essay. It is your response to the counterargument (those who disagree with you).
What is the rebuttal?
You must do this if you have two verbs in a sentence.
