If you know it's going to be late beforehand, you should inform your professor and see if it is ok to turn it in late at all. Your professor will make a determination whether to give you an extension, full credit, or not

24-48 hours, depending on the situation. If it is not something that can be addressed in that amount of time, you should respond back within that period letting the person know that you will get back to them at a later time with more information.

Reach out to them with a formal email explaining directly why you are trying to connect (interest in their research, interest in their field of study, interest in where they attended graduate school, etc.). Ask them if they would be willing to set up a time to meet and discuss your interests.

Tip: If you're going to be unexpectedly late, always let your supervisor know as soon as possible. If you are going to be consistently late, have a conversation with your supervisor about your schedule and work on ways to make it work for both of you.

What should you do if you are working on a group assignment, and your group isn't responding?

Always keep a record of your attempts to contact them. If it's via email, keep all the emails. If it's text, make sure they're date/time stamped. In form your professor of the multiple attempts and no responses and discuss with them what you should do moving forward.
