What is the difference between casual and business casual dress?
Business casual usually involves no jeans or sneakers. Polos or button-downs are acceptable.
How should you address professors/faculty/staff when communicating in person or via email?
Professor Smith, Dr. Smith, or Ms. Smith are all acceptable.
Exception: Call people what they ask you to call them. If they like a first name only, just do that.
It is appropriate to come to class for the last 10 minutes and expect the professor to give you full credit for attending.

What should you do if your roommate keeps having people over in your room or disrupting you, at times when you would normally be studying/sleeping?
Have a serious conversation with your roommate. Let them know what you need and come to an agreement on what hours are appropriate for certain things. Compromise will be the key to confronting conflict.

Unless explicitly given a uniform or told otherwise, always dress business formal. If they tell you that you can dress down more, you can after that. Always err on the side of caution to make a good first impression!

You should be in class by no later than 1:50pm unless you have informed your professor otherwise.

As much as we would love to be able to give everyone an internship or a job, its really not up to us. What we can do is prepare you with all of the knowledge and resources you need to get those opportunities for yourself.
What should you do if you are late turning in an assignment?
If you know it's going to be late beforehand, you should inform your professor and see if it is ok to turn it in late at all. Your professor will make a determination whether to give you an extension, full credit, or not

You receive an email. What is the maximum amount of time you should take to reply?
24-48 hours, depending on the situation. If it is not something that can be addressed in that amount of time, you should respond back within that period letting the person know that you will get back to them at a later time with more information.
How do you connect to staff/faculty/college employees that you do not have a connection with?
Reach out to them with a formal email explaining directly why you are trying to connect (interest in their research, interest in their field of study, interest in where they attended graduate school, etc.). Ask them if they would be willing to set up a time to meet and discuss your interests.

Our stipends should not be primarily used for paying tuition. Our money is used to help students with costs outside of school such as graduate school applications/visit, research, conference registration and travel, and life's emergencies.

Talk to the professor first.
If that doesn't resolve it, speak to the department chair and move up from there.

Your new job schedule is 9am to 5pm every day. What time should you arrive at work?
8:45-8:55. Being early is always a plus. You should be ready to work at 9am.
Tip: If you're going to be unexpectedly late, always let your supervisor know as soon as possible. If you are going to be consistently late, have a conversation with your supervisor about your schedule and work on ways to make it work for both of you.
How do you connect with a potential employer while still completing your undergraduate degree?
Attend career fairs.

For many of you, student orgs will be your first opportunity to be professional or take on leadership roles. This is a great thing to put on your resume for future grad school applications and/or jobs.
What should you do if you are working on a group assignment, and your group isn't responding?
Always keep a record of your attempts to contact them. If it's via email, keep all the emails. If it's text, make sure they're date/time stamped. In form your professor of the multiple attempts and no responses and discuss with them what you should do moving forward.
