Refer to methods of conducting research through direct sensory experience objectively.

Empirical evidence

100

What type of neuron carries information from the CNS to muscles

Motor neuron

100

Which rhythm occurs once every 24hrs?

Circadian

100

Criteria needed for Mann Whitney

IGD

Difference

Ordinal data

200

The findings of a study should be repeated (the results will be the same or similar - therefore considered reliable

What type of neuron carries information towards the CNS?

Sensory neuron

Name an example of an infradian rhythm

SAD or Menstrual cycle

200

Repeated measures, ordinal data, a test of difference?

Which test?

Wilcoxon

300

A set of shared assumptions or beliefs about how behaviour or thought is studied or explained.

What type of neuron has short axons and short dendrites?

Relay neuron

300

Name an example of a circadian rhythm.

Sleep wake cycle or core body temperature.

300

Chi Square criteria?

Nominal data, IGD, Difference.

I involve minimisi ng all sources of personal bias to prevent distortion or infl uence on the research process.

Describe Stern and Mclintock's study.

Female menstrual cycles became synchronised with other females through odour exposure. In one study, sweat samples from one group of women were rubbed onto the upper lip of another group. Despite the fact that the two groups were separate, their menstrual cycles synchronised. This suggests that the synchronisation of menstrual cycles can be affected by pheromones

400

The two correlational tests?

Pearson's and Spearman's

I am the principle that a theory cannot be considered scientifi c unless it admits the possibility of being found untrue.

Falsifiability

Explain the process of inhibition.

If the neurotransmitter is inhibitory the post synaptic neuron is less likely to fire.

Describe Decoursey's study.

Removed the SCN from 30 chipmunks. Also used surgical controls and intact controls. She then leased them back into their natural habitat, and observed. After 80 days, most of the lesioned chipmunks had been killed, due to them remaining awake during times when they should be asleep resulting in their death. Therefore, SCN also has an evolutionary advantage.
