Explain the formation of fossil fuels.

When decaying organisms fall into areas where there is no oxygen, such as the deep ocean, they can't be regularly broken down because decomposers cannot respire without oxygen. Instead, the organisms' bodies get gradually buried and more sediments build on top of them. Because of high pressure and heat modify their remains into fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas.
