BAD B's
bradycardia
blurred vision
hypotension
constipation
depression
fatigue
weakness
bad nightmares
calcium channel blockers action
vasodilation
for high BP
digoxin action
Hydrocortisone action
Suppresses inflammation and the normal immune response, used for adrenocortical insufficiency
Ipratropium action and side effects
Anticholinergics
inhibits cholinergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle that make bronchodilation
dry mouth, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, palpations
considerations with beta blockers
hold if HR is under 60
Hold if BP is under 100
watch for signs of hypotension and bradycradia
calcium channel blocker side effects
hypotension
bradycardia
edema
flushing
gingival hyperplasia
digoxin side effects
Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, and diarrhea may occur
Ipratropium Action
inhibits cholinergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle that make bronchodilation
Rifampin action and side effects
Anti-tuberculosis agent
bactericidal action against susceptible organisms
causes thrombocytopenia, body fluid discoloriation
orange to red in pee, sweat, tears, contact lens
ACE side effects
dizziness, headache, fatigue, COUGH, diarrhea, blurred vision, rash
calcium channel blocker considerations
avoid grapefruit juice
albuterol action
binds to beta adrenergic receptors in airway smooth muscles, decreased intracellular calcium relaxes smooth muscle airways
Nitroglycerin action
Relief of anginal attacks, increased cardiac output
isoniazid (INH) action and side effects
Anti-tuberculosis agents
Bacteriostatic action against susceptible mycobacteria
confusion, vomiting, hepatotoxicity, and toxic epidermal necrolysis

improves lipid profile
albuterol side effects
Chest pains, palpitations, angina, tachycardia, tremors, gittery
Nitroglycerin special considerations
taken only up to 3 times 5 minutes in between
tongue will tingle if it is working
keep in a dark room
avoid sunlight/ steam areas such as bathroom and kitchen
Hydralazine
Vasodilator
Lowers BP
tachycardia, angina, nausea
monitor bp and pulse
ACE AND ARB considerations
full effect may not be seen within 3 weeks
watch for orthostatic hypotension
renal dysfunction
simvastatin side effects
rash, gi disturbances, elevated liver enzymes, muscle tenderness
corticosteroids side effects and considerations
cough, dry mouth, hypertension, depression, anorexia, peptic ulcer
route is inhaled, IV, or PO form
if given oral should be given with food or milk
if inhaled use a MDI to reduce side effects
gargle with water or mouth wash after
what patients are allowed to get the pneumococcal vaccines
patients who have diabetes, who have asthma, and who smoke should get the vaccine
patients who have medical conditions and health problems would fit for this vaccine
if you do not smoke or have do not have asthma or any illnesses, you do not need this vaccine, it will not benefit you
TB PPD skin test considerations
must be positive to rule out TB
if pt had a positive test before, does not need another test
should see a wheal on surface of skin
5mm= HIV, close contact with active TB
10mm= nursing homes, health care workers, long term care facilites
15mm= normal general public without any factors
