What gas is produced when a metal and acid react together?

Hydrogen
200

What is the name of the process that heat uses to move through a liquid?

Convection

Draw a soundwave with a quiet, high pitched sound.

frequent waves, not too high above midline.

Nuclear reactors release energy through which process?

Nuclear Fission

A practical was completed to test the effectiveness of different materials to keep water cold. A

A metal drink bottle was compared to a plastic water bottle.

Identify the:

- Independent variable

- Dependent variable

- 2 controlled variables

IV - Type of material used (metal and plastic)

DV: Temperature

CV: Amount of water, time left

300

Which type of heat transfer does not involve particles?

Radiation

300

The law of reflection

The angle of incidence = the angle of reflection

What is the main reason astronauts must communicate via radio when in space?

Sound can't travel through a vacuum

What is the difference between Uranium-235 and Uranium-238?

They are isotopes. Elements of the same atomic number BUT different number of neutrons.

300

Acidic solutions increase the concentration of which type of ion?

Hydrogen ions (H+)

400

A lid on a coffee cup prevents heat transfer occurring by...

Convection

Correctly draw and label a diagram showing reflection. Include: angle of incidence, angle of reflection and normal.

angle of incidence, angle of reflection and normal are all included - see teacher example.

Atoms are more stable if the electrons are filled with electrons. Ions are when an element will lose or gain an electron on the outer (valence) shell.

If Fluorine (9) has an electron configuration of 2,7 it is easier to GAIN 1 extra electron than lose 7.

What would be the OVERALL charge of the Fluorine once it GAINS an extra electron?

-1

You are given three different materials: aluminum, copper, and wood. Your task is to test which material is the most effective at conducting heat. You will do this by heating one end of each material and observing how quickly the other end heats up.

Results: Aluminum (the wax melted in 30 seconds), Copper (the wax melted in 20 seconds), Wood (the wax did not melt even after 2 minutes).

Make a conclusion based on these results and justify your answer.

copper is the most effective conductor of heat because the wax melted the fastest when using the copper material (20 seconds). Aluminum is the second most effective conductor, as the wax melted in 30 seconds. Wood is the least effective conductor of heat since the wax did not melt at all within the given time.

What effect does a concave lens have on light rays passing through it?

It diverges light rays causing them to spread out.

500

Imagine you are shining a flashlight through three different materials: air (a gas), water (a liquid), and glass (a solid). Describe how the speed of light changes as it travels through each of these materials and explain why these changes occur.

  • In Air: Light travels fastest because the density is low.
  • In Water: Light travels slower than in air but faster than in glass due to medium density.
  • In Glass: Light travels slowest because the density is high.
