-P – A – S – S • Pull the pin on the fire extinguisher. • Aim the nozzle of the fire extinguisher at the base of the fire • Squeeze the fire extinguisher handle to release the extinguishing agent. • Sweep the nozzle side-to-side until the fire is extinguished

What do you do in case of a fire?

-R – A – C – E • Rescue anyone from an area of immediate danger where there is smoke or fire. • Alert staff/patients in immediate area, call 911 from a hospital telephone and activate the nearest pull station. • Confine: Close all doors in the area to help isolate the hazard to a smaller area. • Evacuate/Extinguish: Use a fire extinguisher on a small fire if you feel comfortable doing so, or evacuate

How do you obtain interpretation services?

When a patient is seen in our system, the first area of contact will identify language needs or communication barriers and document the patient’s preferred language in the electronic health record (EHR). If necessary, staff will use language identification charts or posters to determine the patient’s primary language

What is the hazardous spill response?

Confine the spill location by closing all doors and isolating the area. • Report spill by calling 911 • Secure spill by blocking off entrances and prevent people from entering. • Cleanup. Department-level staff is responsible for cleaning up minor spills that occur in their area.

How would you report a medical emergency or Code Blue on Parkland property?

Dial 911 from a Parkland phone and clearly state what activity the individual is experiencing along with your location (floor, unit, wayfinding number). The Call Center operator will deploy the appropriate response team.

- Away from the hospital, the 911 call goes to the city 911 services and not to our call center operator.

How long can nails be for individuals that fall under the fingernail portion of the hand hygiene policy?

Fingernails should not be visible past the tip of fingers when hands are viewed facing upwards

It contains information on chemicals/hazardous materials used in the area. Hazsoft SDS search link is located on the intranet home page under the Regulatory tab. If there is an exposure, report to your manager and Occupational Health for treatment and follow-up.

What is a conflict of interest? How do you avoid conflicts of interest?

A conflict of interest (COI) occurs when non-Parkland responsibilities or outside loyalties affect (or appear to affect) your ability to carry out Parkland responsibilities independently and objectively.

A conflict of interest might look like:

  • Personal investments
  • Personal relationships
  • Business opportunities
  • Service to other organizations

What do you do if you notice unsafe conditions?

If there is immediate danger to others, protect them from harm and notify the Engineering Department. If it is something that is not an immediate danger, but needs to be fixed, submit a work order through Parkland Intranet > Self-Service Portal > and place a request to the appropriate department or call 469-419-1000 (ext. 71000) from a Parkland telephone.
