A process of investigation
What is the Scientific Method?
Steve was given a set of 5 metal cubes. He calculated the densities of each to determine the type of metal in each. The densities were really close to each other, so he asked his friend Robert to do the same experiment and see if he gets the same results
What is Replication?
This is the variable that can be changed in the experiment.
What is Independent Variable?
2. Which description defines the variable in a scientific experiment?
A. a set of possible outcomes for an experiment
B. a question being explored by an investigation
C. any factor that can change in a controlled experiment
D. a range of values for a particular quantity in an experiment.
What is C?
These are Ms. Exum Favorite Colors.
What is Black and Yellow?
Uses an "IF.....Then...." Statement.
Its a tentative explanation
What is a hypothesis?
John was mixing a batch of glue and borax solution to make silly putty and discovered a new substance that glows in the dark. He gave Ryan his specific amounts of ingredients and the steps of his procedure. He asked Ryan to try the experiment to see if he gets the same results.
What is Replication?
A good experiment has several characteristics. Which characteristic is part of a scientifically sound experiment?
A. Results can be reproduced.
B. Results are not reviewed by peers.
C. Results are based on a small sample size.
D. Results are based on an undisclosed process or procedure.
What is A?
What is Cheesecake?
This is where you test your hypothesis.
What is an Experiment?
Billy is testing golf balls. He drops three different brands of balls from 40 cm and measures how high they bounce. He drops each ball 10 times.
What is Repetition?
This is the variable that is kept the same.
What is a Controlled Variable?
Anton is a geologist. He wants to get the best possible information about lava flows from eruptions that are happening at some specific locations around the world. He wants to be able to vary what he studies based on his initial findings. Which type of investigation should Anton conduct?
A. a survey
B. fieldwork
C. library research
D. a laboratory investigation
What is B?
Ms. Exum is a huge fan of these types of shows.
What is Anime?
You gather up all your data in this part...don't worry this can prove if the hypothesis is true or false.
What is Analysis?
Julie goes to Silver River each week for 4 weeks and collects 5 samples of water to test the pH
What is Repetition?
In which of these parts of a scientific investigation do you use your senses to obtain information?
A. analysis
B. conclusion
C. hypothesis
D. observation
What is D?
Ms Exum has been teaching for this amount of years.
What is 6?
This uses Why? How? What? and it is based on our observations.
What is Question?
Dr. Smith has been reading about another scientist’s research in a physics journal. He plans to do these experiments himself and see if he gets the same result.
What is Replication?
This is a variable that is observed and Measured.
What is a Dependent Variable?
Although a scientific theory is well supported and widely accepted, what might cause it to change?
A. new evidence
B. a scientific law
C. individual claims
D. a scientific model
What is A?
Ms. Exum has this amount of brothers and sisters.
What is 3 and 2?
