What is a producer?
Give a definition and name the three we talked about in class.
Producers create their own food by photosynthesis or Chemosynthesis.
Ex of producers: green plants, algae and some forms of bacteria
What are consumers?
Give a definition, and try to name 3 of the different types.
Consumers are organisms that can't create their own food. They obtain their energy by eating.
Herbivore, Carnivore, Omnivore, Detritivores, Scavengers, and Decomposers.
What is Chemosynthesis and why do some producers use this instead of Photosynthesis?
Give a definition.
Chemosynthesis: chemicals such as hydrogen sulfide or methane replace sunlight to help produce energy.
Some producers use chemosynthesis instead of photosynthesis because they live in extremely dark environments that other plants would not be able to survive in due to lack of sunlight.
