Endoscopic procedure used to examine a joint. Ensure the client has been NPO after midnight the day of the procedure.
What is arthroscopy?
Refers to the surgical removal of a diseased joint due to osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, or congenital anomalies, and replacement with prosthetics or artificial components made of metal (stainless steel, titanium) and/or plastic
What is Arthroplasty?
Used to identify pathologic bone conditions and metastatic bone cancer. Encourage the client to drink several glasses of water between the time of the isotope injection and scan.
What is bone scan?
This is also called total joint replacement, involves the replacement of all components of an articulating joint.
What is Total joint arthroplasty?
Determines bone mineral content and bone density. Ensure the client removes all metallic objects prior to the test.
What is Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA)
involves the replacement of the distal femoral component, the tibia plate, and the patellar button. Total knee arthroplasty is a surgical option when conservative measures fail.
What is Total knee arthroplasty?
Evaluates muscle weakness and differentiates muscle diseases from neurologic conditions. Ensure the client has not ingested stimulants or muscle relaxants prior to the procedure.
What is Electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG)?
is done when a client’s joint is diseased in one compartment of the joint.
What is Unicondylar knee replacement?
Used to detect metastatic tumors, locate infection or inflammation, and monitors response to treatments. Precautions against radioactive exposure are not necessary.
What is Gallium and Thallium Scans?
involves the replacement of the acetabular cup, femoral head, and femoral stem.
What is Total hip arthroplasty?
