Describe social exchange theory and explain how comparison level and comparison level for alternatives can impact someone's decision to stay in or leave a relationship. 

Social exchange theory says people evaluate relationships by weighing rewards and costs. 

A comparison level is what they expect to get in terms of rewards and costs in the relationship. A comparison level for alternatives is what they think they could get in another relationship. If their current relationship falls below these levels, they may be more likely to leave.
