This is the only middle school in California offering an LGBT+ Studies course, and one of the few schools at any grade level in the entire country to do so.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:35 to 4:00 PM.

LGBT+ Studies has more detailed assignments, higher expectations, and prepares you for advanced learning.
How do you show respect during discussions?
Listen fully, wait your turn, and speak kindly.
Why is participation significant in this class?
It helps us learn from one another and makes discussions stronger.
What happens if you misuse the bathroom pass—for example, by lingering in the hallway, using it too often, or disrupting other classes?
You’ll lose the privilege and must start asking for permission before leaving.

Ask in advance, either in person or by email.
Name three types of assignments you will complete in this class
Long form essays, Socratic seminars, analysis paragraphs, and media analysis, and hands-on projects.
Why is creating a respectful and safe environment important in this class?
So everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts on sensitive topics.

Politely share your opinion and listen to theirs respectfully.

Check the Otus portal, ask a classmate, or attend office hours.
What happens if you do not return to class on time after working in a different location on campus?
You lose the privilege to work outside of the classroom for the rest of the week.
Why is effort especially important in an honors-level class?
Because the work is more challenging, and effort helps you grow and meet expectations.

By listening without judgment, speaking thoughtfully, and showing kindness and respect for different perspectives.
What’s the best way to ask for extra help or time on an assignment?
Communicate with the teacher in advance—either by email or in person.

What are office hours, who can attend them, and what are the expectations during that time?
Office hours are a supportive time after school where you can get extra help, ask questions, or review class material. Any student is welcome to attend—by yourself or with classmates. It’s a great opportunity to stay on track and deepen your understanding. If you're falling behind, a meeting during office hours may be required to help you get back on track.
