MALIGNANT HYPETHERMIA
WHAT CAUSES MALIGNANT HYPERTHERMIA
a hypermetabolic state occurring in genetically predisposed patients precipitated by the exposure to triggering agents especially inhalation anesthetic agents and depolarizing muscle relaxants, such as Succinylcholine.
WHAT DOES THE TRIGGERING AGENT CAUSE
The triggering agent causes an increase in intracellular calcium ion concentrate
WHAT DOES THE ELEVATION OF CALCIUM DO
This elevated calcium level then produces a chain reaction: left heart failure, skeletal muscle swelling, renal failure, and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
