Check google classroom. Ask a peer for notes or a brief rundown of what happened the day you were out. Check in with the teacher to see if any work must be completed.

What does showing all your work and explaining your reasoning looks like?
Showing all your work and explaining your reasoning in middle school means using steps, numbers, drawings, and words to show how you solved a problem and then explaining why you took those steps, connecting them back to the problem and the math you know. It's like telling a story of your thinking, using evidence like your calculations or observations to support your final answer (the claim).

What should you do when you become frustrated or overwhelm with a math problem?
take a break, simplify the problem, ask for help, and remember that it's okay to make mistakes. You can also try to draw a picture to understand the problem better, write down what you know, and then work step-by-step to find the solution.

Raise your hand and wait to be called on to share ideas. Not to call out answers.

What is a growth mindset environment?
a growth mindset sounds like, "I can't do this yet," or "Mistakes help me learn". It looks like a person is seeking challenges, persisting through difficulties, using effort to improve, and responding to feedback with determination. Middle schoolers with this mindset believe their intelligence and talents can be developed through practice and perseverance, rather than being fixed traits.

These expectations work together - arriving punctually, listening respectfully, using appropriate communication, maintaining personal boundaries, being truthful, and following instructions - to create this type of classroom.

What should you do if your group finishes early?
Check the agenda to make sure all work is completed for the day. There will be finish early options for when all work is completed. Can complete homework from other classes if all work is completed and/or read.
