Why do we have rules and routines in school?
To keep us safe, help us learn, and make school fun for everyone!
Why should students be quiet when the teacher is talking?
Students should remain quiet while the the teacher is talking to show respect. Your classmates want to hear what others have to say and participate. It can be distracting if you or other students are not quiet.

What would happen is everyone called out the answers or talked in class?
The teacher wouldnt be able to hear everyone. Teachers want to hear what you have to say. Students need to raise their hand and wait to be called on when they have something to say.

Cooperation is working together as a team!
Why are directions important?

What is your morning routine?

They may feel mad or sad and may also think that it is disrespectful. We dont want them to feel this way.
How can we be kind?
Something like:
Treat others how you want to be treated.
Say "Please" and "Thank you."
Share your toys and snacks.
Smile and say "Hi."
Make new friends.
Include others in games.
What is one of the skill steps to follow directions?
1. look at the speaker
2. listen carefully
3. Ask questions if youre not sure
4. Do it right away
Sam decided to follow his own plan and not listen to anyone else. Is he following the rules? If not, how could he fix this?
He is not following the rules or routines. He should start listening and follow the group plan or any instruction the teacher gave him.
Rachel is playing a loud video while others are working. What do you think her classmates are probably thinking about her?
They are probably feeling annoyed and distracted.
How can we show cooperation?

Lining up to go somewhere, sitting quietly on the rug, clean up when you are done, etc.

Henry is having a conversation with his friend but the teacher is giving us directions. Some of the class couldnt hear the directions because they were talking loudly. How do you think the members that missed the directions are feeling?
Upset, worried, frustrated, distracted.
Why are these important?

What can you do when you realize you have missed a direction?
- look around to see what others are doing (read the room)
- look to see if the teacher has posted the directions on the board
- raise your hand and ask for the directions to be repeated
- quietly ask a neighbor what you are supposed to do.
