Why do we have procedures?

WHY DO WE HAVE

PROCEDURES?

A procedure is the way that we do things.

To do things right, we have to follow some

simple procedures, for example:

To open your lock, you have to select your

combination as directed by the lock

manufacturer.

To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order.

So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures

What is the SCPS code of Conduct?

The School Board of Seminole County recognizes that the education of children is a process that involves a partnership between a child’s parent(s), teachers, school, administrators, and other school and school board personnel. School and school district personnel will treat all visitors on School Board property with courtesy and respect. The School Board asks that visitors treat school and school district personnel with the same courtesy and respect.

School Board Policy 3380, Civility and Conduct of Parents, Other Visitors to Schools and School District Facilities, and District Employees

Can I run in the classroom? What about shove a friend?

Safety in the art room is priority #1. The class will place a heavy emphasis on safety. Maintaining a clean art room and using proper procedures will keep you from getting hurt. For example, sharp tools are used in linocut printmaking and spilled water can cause falls or other injuries. No horseplay in the art room.

100

What rewards can I get?

Rewards are given for following the rules.

Classroom Rewards Include:

Positive comments in class

Positive notes sent home

Better grades

Work displayed in classroom

Self-responsibility

-Material managers, those that help to clean up, can get Bobcat bucks.

-As a class you can earn extra time for free activities.

100
How do I respect the teacher?

Respect your teacher--I run this classroom as I have my  classrooms in the past, meaning I see you as professional artist. I will treat you with the same respect that you give me, and I will give as much trust and leeway in the art room as you have earned. Do not talk while the teacher is talking. Following directions the first time they are given.

200

How do you enter the classroom?

ENTRANCE

Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class.

Enter the classroom quietly and get your notebook. On Mondays, collect a bellwork sheet and glue stick.

Go directly to your assigned seat. Sit with our feet under the table. SCPS designated electronic devices are stored in backpacks in the backpack zones. Food and water are kept away from art masterpieces.

Get ready for your bellwork.  Sharpen your pencils or get a drink of water before bell work begins. (Should you sharpen a pencil during the pledge or movement of silence?)

200

What is common courtesy?

Words can inspire. Words can hurt.

Always act and speak in an appropriate way.

Students are reminded to say, “Thank you” and “Please” to one another.

200
How do I treat the tools?

During the class, we will often use tools and equipment (especially scissors, carving tools, hot glue) that can cause serious harm if handled incorrectly. At conclusion of class,  carving tools and scissors will be counted prior to leaving the classroom. There should be no shoving or running in the classroom. Treat each tool with respect!

200

Unfortunately, there will be consequences for not following the rules.

The supplies needed for this class are as follows:

300

What is bell work?

Right after you sit down, get out your materials for your bell work and begin “Do Now” work.

Immediately start the bellwork or “Do Now” that will be written on the board.

Do the bell work in your notebook. When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction. Every Friday, bellwork will be graded. If you are absent a day get it from a neighbor. If you are out on a Friday, show me on Monday for full credit.

300

How am I responsible?

Clean up your space at the end of class

Use the tools and materials as instructed

300

How loud is loud?

I expect the class to be loud at times. While we should be having fun, the teacher must be heard at all times, whether to be able to communicate further instructions or an art project or in the event of an emergency. If the class is too loud I will place NOISE on the board with 3 attempts to quiet. NO- means no talking.

300
What happens if I intentionally damage or hurt someone with a tool?

Immediate lunch detention and a call to your parents.

300

How am I graded?

Grades will be calculated as a percentage of the total points out of all possible points for the semester.

All missing assignments are welcome, for a reduced grade, up to one week before the end of the quarter.

A=100%-90, B= 89%-80%, C=79%-70% D=69-60% F=59%-0

400

How am I ready?

Arrive to class on time and start your Bellwork

Commit to staying on task & put forth your best effort

400

How do I respect my classmates?

Respect your classmates-- Each art room is only as good as its team of artists.  Teamwork will be important in this class, and showing your teammates and classmates the same level of respect you’d like to be shown is the biggest part of that. Complete your designated job in a timely manner.

400

Do you like music?

I love playing music while creating art. Your great actions can win you a chance to pick the music.

400

What is expected during instruction time?

Listen to the teacher with full attention.

Ask permission to speak by raising your hand.

Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions, which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction.

After instruction, make sure you understand the concept . If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you did not understand.

Restroom breaks and water breaks may be taken after the first ten minutes of class.  Restroom passes will  be given after the first ten minutes of class. Restroom passes will end before the last ten minutes of class.

500

What do I do if I am done with my work?

-Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. The goal is not rush but put forth your best effort.

-If the assignment is to be turned in, do so.

-Start your cleaning your area.

-Begin free time activity. Most times there is an artist  statement to complete.

500

How am I respectful?

Keep your hands to yourself and keep all chair legs on the floor

Raise your hand when you want to speak.

500

How do I respect the art room and the materials?

Respect your art room--For the duration of the semester, this art room is as much yours as it is mine. Please treat the art room and equipment with respect. If we have to make art with dirty or broken equipment, we only have ourselves to blame.

Respect the materials-- The materials we use each week have been purchased with an exact amount in mind. Please refrain from mishandling or wasting the materials in the art room.
