Email Basics
This is the button you click when you are completely finished typing and ready for your message to go to the other person.
What is the "Send" button?
"Dear Mr. Smith" or "Hi Sarah" at the very beginning of your message is called this.
What is a greeting?
This is a secret word or phrase you use to log into your email. You should never share it with your friends.
What is a password?
Junk emails from stores or strangers that try to sell you things you don't want are often called this meat-themed word.
What is Spam?
This is the blank box at the very top of the email where you type the email address of the person you are writing to.
What is the "To" line?
Typing your whole email using ONLY CAPITAL LETTERS makes it look like you are doing this to the person reading it.
What is yelling (or shouting)?
If someone you do not know sends you an email asking for your home address or phone number, you should do this.
What is ignore it / delete it / tell an adult?
An email says you just won a million dollars or a free iPhone, but you didn't enter a contest. You should probably do this with the email.
What is delete it?
This is a short title you type to tell the person what your email is about before they even open it.
What is the "Subject" line?
Writing "Sincerely" or "Thank you," followed by your name at the very bottom of the email, is called this.
What is a sign-off (or closing)?
True or False: It is completely safe to meet up with someone in person if you have only ever talked to them on the internet.
What is False?
You should never click on one of these (usually a blue, underlined word) if you don't know who sent the email.
What is a link?
A picture or a document that you add to your email is called this.
What is an attachment?
You should always do this quick check before you click send to make sure you didn't misspell any words.
What is proofreading (or checking your work)?
If you read an email or see a picture online that makes you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused, this is who you should tell.
Who is a trusted adult (parent, teacher, guardian)?
A bad person might send an email pretending to be your bank or your school, asking for your password. This trick is called this.
What is phishing (or a scam)?
