What is a horizon line and can it be tipped?

The line at eye-level and no.

100

What is shade and where is it found?

The darkness on an object because it is physically turned away from the primary light source.

Name 4 common scenic binders.

Emulsion, Size, Starch, Robo Glue, Beer, Milk, Primer, Elmer's Glue, acrylic and vinyl binder, latex, etc.

200

Why does a scenic artist draw?

To build visual memory, have context, increase speed of drawing, have understanding of drawing, present context, learning to draw with a paintbrush better

200

What foam is poured into mold?

AB Foam, two-part foam, pour foam, expanding foam, Polyurethane AB foam

200

What determines if there are 1, 2, or 3 vanishing points per object?

The perspective that the image is in.

200

What is the bed-bug line?

Line that casts the shadow, the shape of the edge of the shade area which is toward the light.

Name

300

What makes a good image for projecting?

Clear image, several sizes of image, fine details

300

What foam is packing peanuts?

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

300

What happens at the extreme edge of the cone of vision?

The object distorts.

300

What is dark toner and where is it found?

Area of slightly darkened surface to show a tonal difference in a level change.

400

What does NTS mean and what does it make you do/create?

Not to scale and wants you to create a division grid.

400

What are 3 items made of polyethylene?

A) Pipe Insulation

B) Yoga Mats

C) Picnic Coolers

D) Pool Swimming Noodles

E) Restaurant take-out boxes

A, C, and D

400

What circumstance would a "vertical line" not be perpendicular to the horizon line?

If the image is in 3-point perspective
400

What is a primary light?

The color which describes where the light hitting the surface from the primary light source.

Steps to prepare an image for projecting. (Either physical projector or digital).

Physical: Take the image to the printer and enlarge or downsize it, print on the acetate, adjust image on light printer

Digital: Get a clear image, hook up to projector, work with the projector to get it to the correct scale

500

What type of foam is "open cell" polyurethane foam?

A) Floral

B) Balsa

C) Both

D) Neither

A

500

Would a picture have 23 vanishing points?

Yes bc of Peter Miller.

500

Where is a cutline found?

At a level change with a shadow, inside corner between shade and shadow, in cracks and holes

600
Describe how to make a square using Pythagorean therom.

Start with a line and create a point zero (0) and then measure out 4 units on it. Then from that point, swing five (5) units above point zero. Then from point zero, swing 3 units. Snap a line through the intersection. Measure out the desired length of piece on base line and then swing the actual height of the piece desired. Measure straight line to actual height and mark. Swing the top length from that corner. Now connect all lines. Check the corners by measuring the diagonals.

600

What is the difference between pink and blue polystyrene?

A) Nothing

B) The color

C) Pink is denser than Blue

E) Blue is denser than Pink

B

600

What is a vp and where is it found?

The point on the horizon line where two parallel lines meet.

600

What is light toner and where is it found?

Area of slightly lightened surface with the purpose of showing a tonal difference in a level change. Usually put on texturally.

700

Describe how to make a square with a sheet of paper/notepad paper.

Line up the parallel edges of the paper to each other to create a square. Fold the excess back and then trace the square

700

What hazardous gas is emitted from burning foam?

styrene monomer, benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide

700

5 initial steps when working with an image in perspective.

1) Create copy of original artwork

2) "Square-up" the art work by drawing a box around each side in scale.

3) Find the horizon line, vps, and cl.

4) Locate major verticals and extend them to the top and bottom.

5) Locate major perspective lines and extends from side to side.

Bonus: Find spring lines, consider non-major elements, attempt to measure as little as possible, measure consistently from edge.

700

What is bounce light and what are three other terms it can be called?

Dimmer light that is seen within the shade and cast shadow areas of a surface. This is also called fill light, secondary light source, and reflected light.
