Courtship is the foundation of marriage. Habits, attitudes, and patterns formed during courtship often carry into marriage. Waiting until marriage to become serious is like trying to fix a foundation after the house is already built.

potential is who a person might become in the future, while reality is who they are right now. Building a relationship on potential means relying on hoped-for changes that may never happen, rather than evaluating the person's current character, habits, and actions.
