A positive learning environment with friendly, cooperative, and respectful relations between the teacher and the students: the teachers had a good rapport with the students and showed awareness of their needs, their strengths and areas for improvement.

The atmosphere was relaxed yet purposeful and conducive to learning.

Good lesson dynamics was observed with students actively engaged and willing to participate.

The activities were properly set up: teachers presented the material clearly, gave clear instructions and used concept checking to ensure understanding.

In general, classroom management was handled effectively making good use of whole class, group and pair work. In some classes teachers monitored effectively, provided additional one to one support when necessary.

The development of the four skills was addressed appropriately.

In the main, there was a well-structured progression from input to practice of the language in an oral presentation. There were well-structured activities scaffolding the transition from reading and listening to speaking.

The language was addressed systematically: the input on lexis was appropriate and the students were guided through structures.

There were some instances of elicitation, and work delegated to students with pre-set tasks and student-led exchanges.

In line with the Flipped Learning model in few classes teachers referred to the pre-class input and tasks.

Teachers successfully integrated videos and visual stimuli to support comprehension and engagement.

Online classes: teachers managed technology skilfully making an effective use of break out rooms, chat box, screen sharing, padlet, etc.

Which areas for development did the inspectors identify during the observations between February 17-19, 2026? Name at least 3.

Balance of teacher and student focus in interaction patterns: in some lessons there was a substantial amount of whole-class teacher-led plenary interaction with individual student contribution which resulted in extensive Teacher Talking Time (TTT).

Some lessons were delivered in the seminar format rather than in an interactive mode.

Some teachers tended to focus their attention on a few students only limiting the opportunities for all students to actively participate in classes. More student-led activities would have increased student engagement.

There was over dependence on published materials with little adaptation, tasks being followed without reference to the context, moving straight from one to the next with no discussion, no tailoring to emerging language or learner needs.

Correction: the inspectors saw few examples of instant error correction. However, there were a number occasions of missed opportunities for delayed or peer correction to focus on target language error or at higher levels on reformulation or introduction of useful and personal incidental language.

Pronunciation work: teaching and correction in this area was limited and the inspectors witnessed some students struggling with pronunciation. • There were very few instances of elicitation and concept checking questions, the latter ones limited to instructions; their broader use would have activated students and reduced TTT.

Some classes were focused on grammar and presentations of structures with little elicitation and student-student interaction.

There were instances of progression from one task to another with insufficient time allocated to use the target language of the lesson.

At higher levels (B1+) some of the tasks were not challenging enough and the opportunities for students to produce longer chunks of the language were missed.

Although pair and group work was assigned, the students were not always given a genuine reason/ a meaningful task to listen to their peers when they reported on tasks or gave presentations.

Classroom management was generally good although the inspectors noticed that in some cases pair and group work was not appropriately monitored.

There was lack of information when setting up tasks – no discussion of how the task was to be achieved and time limits.

There was hardly any evidence of its implementation the classes observed.'
