This verb is used to report questions.
Asked
Do you like it?
He/She asked me if I liked it.
What is it?
He/She asked me what it was.
Anna asked why these Arctic animals had a lot of fur.
Polar bears
When we report a question, the word order changes into from question form into this form.
Statement form
Pete: Have seals got flippers?
Pete asked if seals had got flippers.
Jenny: What sea animals have tentacles?
Jenny asked what sea animals had tentacles.
John asked if these forest animals had always got antlers.
Deers
We use this word to introduce a reported Yes/No questions.
If
Me: Teacher, do mountain lions eat squirrels?
I asked my teacher if mountain lions ate squirrels.
Teacher: What animal do you want to study?
Our teacher asked us what animal we wanted to study.
