What is a guard, why do we do it?

The guard is a position where we can sweep, submit or escape from the bottom. It's the only safe option from the bottom.

100

What makes side control better than guard but less good than mount?

It's a top position, so gravity is on your side, but mount can do almost every thing side control does, but better.

100

How would you negotiate with a bully while in mount?

Hold them without hurting them if possible, tell them to stop bullying you. Apply a submission with control if needed.

100

Some people think the back is the best position in martial arts, why is that?

Hard to fight a guy behind you, and his attacks can be very strong there.

100

Crash though the orange board into T-position.

Cover up, spear with that elbow, get a grip, make me move.

200

Show me three techniques from guard

Examples include: Armbar, Triangle, Cross Choke, Kimura, Guillotine, Hip Bump Sweep, Scissor sweep, and many more.

200

Show me a good side control with lots of pressure.

Knees off the floor, under-hook, shoulder of justice are some of the details.

200

show me how to maintain mount when the bad guy is going crazy.

Use your ands and feet to stay stable, don't stiffen up, maybe even threaten a submission.

200

Show me a perfect rear-naked-choke/mata-leao

Elbow under chin, hands placed correctly, hooks in, no "lever arm" motion.

200

Show me any one takedown. Know the name.

Single leg, double leg, major outside reap (osotogari), hip throw, sit-down throw, leg trip throw, various headlock defenses, and many, many more.

300

Show me a two technique combo starting from the guard.

Sweep to a submission, or submission to another submission would be great.

300

Show me two techniques from the top of side control

Examples might include: Armbar, Americana, kimura, 2 ways of going to mount, and more.

300

Show me an armbar>cross-choke combo, or a cross-choke>armbar combo. Tell me why these two work well togather.

If the hands hard from the armbar, they can't protect the neck, if they are close to the neck they are exposed. The angle of set up is also similar.

300

Show me any submission BUT the rear-naked-choke from the back

Armbar, sliding collar, bow-and-arrow choke are suggestions.

300

Jab, cross, hook on the pads.

No goofy wind up, move your feet, don't forget to keep your defending hand up.

400

Show me 2 different guard passes.

Leg staple, stack pass, and many others may apply.

400

Show me 2 different escapes from side control.

The shrimp escape, and the ramp escape, as well as many variations of the two are good here.

400

Show me 2 escapes from mount.

The upa/trap and roll, and the elbow escape work great here, others can work too.

400

Show me a quality back escape.

Go the correct direction (underhook side) and end in side control (not guard)

400

Show me how to use a strike to set up a takedown.

Maybe a jab makes a guy raise his hands, so the double leg is easy, maybe we stomp the leg to set up t-position. there are a zillion options.

500

Show me 5 techniques from guard, know their names.

Examples include: Armbar, Triangle, Cross Choke, Kimura, Guillotine, Hip Bump Sweep, Scissor sweep, and many more.

500

Show me 5 techniques from side control. Know their names.

Examples might include: Armbar, Americana, kimura, 2 ways of going to mount, and more.

500

Show me 3 techniques from mount, know their names.

Cross choke, americana, armbar, back take,

500

Show me 3 ways to get to the back.

Arm drags from guard, and standing, gift wrap situations, duck-under, berimbolos (fancy rolling back takes) could count here.

500

Show me 4 takedowns and 6 strikes

Single leg, double leg, major outside reap (osotogari), hip throw, sit-down throw, leg trip throw, various headlock defenses, and many, many more.

Jab, cross, hook, uppercut, front kick, side kick, back kick, roundhouse kick, question mark kick, hammer fist, elbows, knees, and more.
