Grading Policy
This type of grading policy will be used in Ms. Breitenbach's grade 8 ELA class.
What is Standards Based Grading?
Students will keep their ELA notebooks here so they are available for use every day in class.
What is in the ELA Classroom?
This agreement states that students will "arrive to school and all classes on time and ready to engage in learning"
What is "Be Present & Punctual"?
When working with a partner, it should look/ sound/ feel like this (state at least 1 from each category)

In ELA, we are practicing doing "this" about what we read, see, and listen to.
What is "thinking Critically"?
Students really strive for this score on their assignments, which show that they have exceeded the standard that was assessed.
What is a 4?
When students enter the classroom, the first thing they should do (after saying hello to the teacher) is this.
What is look at the materials whiteboard and gather all needed materials?
This agreement includes the Academy-wide snack policy "snacks should not be shared, must not create a mess, and should be enjoyed without disrupting class".

What is page 2 of the ELA syllabus?
This grading category includes assignments like notebook checks and weekly homework.
What is Professionalism/ Accountability?
Students are responsible for acquiring these materials by this date, or this long after being enrolled.
What is September 14, 2026 or 1 week after enrollment?
This agreement says that you should "Keep unneeded personal items (phones, AirPods, tech distractions, games, etc) put away during instructional time to maximize engagement."
What is "Protect Learning Time"?
When working in your table group, it should look/ sound/ feel like this (state at least 1 from each category)

This type of assignment can impact scores in both the Content and Writing grading categories.
What are writing assignments?

Where is the material list section of the whiteboard?
You should complete all of your work for this class using your own thinking, knowledge, and teacher provided resources only (No AI use or copying of answers from others), as this agreement states.
What is "Work with Integrity"?
When the teacher is giving instruction, it should look/ sound/ feel like this (state at least 1 from each category)

Each week, your goal is to read an independent reading book for at least this many minutes.
What is 60?
If a student does not score well on one assignment, but does better on the next assignment that assesses the same standard, the updated score does this to the older score in the grade book.
What is replace?
Get this done before the first 5 minutes of the period so you're ready for the lesson!
