What are the 5 steps in the fossilization process?



1) The plant or animal dies and lays on ground or bottom of the ocean.

2) It gets covered by sand and mud and the soft parts decay.

3) Over time, pressure turns the surrounding sand into rock. 

4)Water seeps in and the bones become petrified.

5) The sand and mud wash away and the fossil surfaced to be discovered.
