Although the JAGD began requesting enlisted “clerks” in the 1890s, it was not until World War I that the War Department finally assigned it enlisted legal personnel, authorized only for the duration of the emergency. These personnel became the precursor to this MOS, which continues to serve the JAG Corps over 100 years later.

Between 1945-1948, Army lawyers and legal personnel helped to prosecute and defend hundreds of former enemy officials, military personnel, and civilians charged with violations of the laws of war. At this former prison camp in Germany, they achieved a 73% conviction rate. (HINT: this was the first concentration camp established by the Nazis in Germany).
