Types of Poetry
A poem where some lines end with words that sound the same (they rhyme).
What is Rhyming?
Using clues from the text and what you already know to figure something out. You “read between the lines” to understand what the author doesn’t say directly.
What is Inferencing?
Telling the main parts of a story in a short way. Including characters, setting, problem, events, and solution.
What is Summarizing Fiction?
Telling the most important facts from an informational text. Including the central idea and key details, but leave out extra details that are not relevant.
What is Summarizing Nonfiction?
Finding how two things are alike and how they are different. Compare = How they are the same. Contrast = How they are different.
What is Compare and Contrast?
A short poem with 3 lines. It follows a pattern with syllables. Usually about nature.
What is Haiku?
What can you infer if a character is hiding under a blanket?
What is scared, cold, or trying to hide from something?
A brief statement of the main points of a story.

Name one key detail you can include in a summary.
