When do we use the third conditional?
when we refer to a situation in the past that we can't change, often used to express regrets but can also be used to express gratitude or an imagined alternate reality e.g "I wonder what the world would be like if we had never invented cars.''
The sentence: "We couldn't go to the concert, because we didn't have enough money" in third conditional would be:
If we had had enough money, we could have gone to the concert"

In the if-clause we use the past perfect (had + past participle). We don't use would or would have in the if-clause.
