Parts of Speech
This part of speech describes a noun or pronoun.
What is an adjective?
In the sentence, "The cat slept," this is the subject.

This type of clause can stand alone as a complete sentence.

This type of clause can stand alone but often follows a dependent clause to form a complex sentence.
What is an independent clause?
An independent clause can be as short as two words—subject and verb—yet still be a complete sentence!

Subordinating conjunctions can flip the sentence around! "When I arrived, they left" and "They left when I arrived" mean the same thing, but the clauses are reversed.
