The pole that is set when flying a third sail on a downwind or reach leg.

The name for a line that, when hoisted, pulls a sail up. Don't sky it!
What is a halyard?
When pushing the tiller towards the sail, the boat will steer in this direction.
What is heading up-wind?
In both of these cases, the green boat has rights because they are to "this" of the red boat.
What is leeward?
These boats are new to the FHSS arsenal as of 2020. They used to be manufactured by a writing utensil company, hence the spelling of the name. Who doesn't love a pun?
What is the O'PEN Skiff?
There are two of these small metal parts attached to the hull, one on either side of the rail. They are used when flying the spinnaker.
What are guy hooks?
The spinnaker should always be rigged on this side of the boat, with one sheet off the side and one sheet around the bow.
What is the port side?
Another term for when a boat is in the "no-go-zone". The word somewhat relates to its homonym, as you may feel like you're behind bars.
What is irons?
What are commercial boats/ferries OR boats with limited steering ability.

Another name for the stern of the boat, specifically the flat surface at the rear.
What is the transom?
This line, that acts as a setting for the main sail, should be fully rigged before hoisting the sail. If not, you'll be running into problems before you can even get "out" on the water.
What is the outhaul?
There are three of these points of sail, each with a different prefix, which correlates to the angle from the wind direction.
What is close, beam, and broad reach?
A boat sailing - or luffing and drifting - backwards has these rights over boats sailing forwards.
What are no rights?
This is the name for what staff members use to hail one another over the radios.
What are callsigns?
The formal name for the metal piece to which three things attach: the jib tack, the forestay, and the bow shackle.
What is the bow plate?
Make sure that this setting is let off completely before hoisting the main - and also when approaching the dock, to help de-power the boat.
What is the vang?
A term that means the wind has shifted, and the boat can no longer point as high. You'll have to "____" down to fix the problem.
What is a header?
In this scenario, the white boat has right of way for a proper rounding, as they have just entered this, designated by the dashed circle three boat lengths around the mark.
